Ukraine forced to import electricity from Russia, says Kuleba

Ukraine intends to completely “disconnect” from the joint energy system with Russia by 2023.

Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba says Ukraine is forced to import electricity from Russia due to shared power systems. He said this on Channel 5 air.

“Now physically our system has been connected to the electrical systems of Russia and Belarus since Soviet times. In critical situations from the point of view of electricity supply, there are temporary forced purchases of electricity from those to whom you are connected,” he said the minister. .

According to him, the electricity supply of the Russian Federation is a forced temporary step. “It does not indicate in any way a redirection or profit of money. Frosts hit, demand in Ukraine increased sharply, there were supplies,” Kuleba said.

The minister added that Ukraine plans to “disconnect” completely from the Russian Federation’s energy system until 2023.

“You need to follow a technological path, you must adapt your system to European standards. My colleagues at the Ministry of Energy are moving down this path. As far as I know, 2023 is the earliest time when your system can prepare for the transition to European standards. ”- he clarified.

Let us remind you that in early January Ukraine started buying electricity from the Belarusian nuclear power plant. Several companies decided to import electricity from Belarus after the lifting of the ban introduced in the spring.

And on February 1, one million kWh was imported from Russia. The entire volume was purchased by ONK-Group LLC, registered in Odessa.
