The budget did not take into account the increase in the salaries of doctors - Ministry of Health

Doctors should not wait for the promised salary increase

Stepanov promised to increase the salaries of medical workers as early as January, but the Health Ministry’s proposals were not included in the budget.

The budget for next year did not take into account the proposal of the Ministry of Health to increase the salaries of medical workers, the department fears that this will lead to an exit of specialists. This was announced on Monday, November 30, by the Minister of Health, Maxim Stepanov.

The Ministry of Health proposed to include in the budget the salary of a doctor at the level of 23 thousand hryvnia, a nurse – 17 thousand, junior medical staff – 12 thousand hryvnia.

“In the version of the budget, which the Cabinet of Ministers sent to the Verkhovna Rada to vote, no funds are provided for such a salary increase. That is why I, as Minister of Health, did not vote for this budget and did not support it. “Stepanov said.

As an example of the low salaries of doctors, he cited Zhitomir, whom he visited the day before. There, a doctor who takes care of patients with acute stroke receives 5800-6000 thousand UAH without additional payments.

“Any other European country pays between 5 and 6 thousand euros for this work, that is, 30 times more,” Stepanov added.

He promised to “fight to the end” for higher salaries for doctors. Otherwise, the minister thinks, qualified doctors will continue to leave Ukraine.

Recall that the Ministry of Health asked to increase spending on drugs to 5% of GDP instead of 3-3.5%.

According to the draft budget, it is planned to spend 156 billion UAH on medicines next year, while, for example, in the program of Large Buildings, 150 billion UAH.
