The European Union may allow Boeing 737 MAX planes to fly from 2021. The permit is expected to be issued in January.
This was stated by the executive director of the European Aviation Safety Agency, Patrick Kai, Reuters reports.
“Probably, in our case, we will make decisions to put the plane back into service sometime in January,” Kai said.
Note that this week the head of the US Federal Aviation Administration, Stephen Dixon, signed an executive order authorizing Boeing 737 MAX flights.
The aircraft of this series were banned after the accidents of the liner Lion Air in Indonesia on October 29, 2018 (189 victims) and the Ethiopian Airlines board (157 victims). As it became known, the accidents were caused by a malfunction in the MCAS maneuvering performance improvement system. After a while, Boeing recognized this and updated the software.
In May 2020, it emerged that Boeing was gradually restoring production to the 737 MAX model. It stalled when airlines canceled orders for the model.
