The gas pipeline will connect Poland, Denmark and Norway.
Sweden has allowed the construction of the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline, which is supposed to connect Poland, Denmark and Norway, in its economic zone in the Baltic Sea. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Polish company Gaz-System, which is the operator of the gas pipeline.
The company said the permission from the Swedish authorities was the last step to start construction of the Baltic Pipe, which they plan to supply gas to Poland to replace Russia.
“On May 7, 2020, the Swedish government approved the construction of the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline in Sweden in the Baltic Sea. The permit to install the gas pipeline issued by the Swedish Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation completes the process of obtaining construction permits for all sections of the Baltic Pipeline project in each country, what it will go through, “the Gaz-System statement said.
It should be noted that the construction of the pipeline was previously approved in Poland and Denmark. The pipeline that runs through Denmark, Poland and Sweden is about 275 kilometers long. Approximately 85 kilometers of the pipeline will pass through Swedish territory.
Construction of the Baltic Pipeline is slated to begin in the second half of 2020. First, construction sites will be prepared in Poland and Denmark, after which tunnel construction will begin. The pipeline itself is slated for the summer of 2021, and the scheduled commissioning date is October 2020.
Recall that last year the European Commission approved the allocation of additional funds for the construction of the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline. On 15 April an agreement was signed in Brussels on the allocation of a grant of almost 215 million euros.
