Tesla delivered 499,550 cars in 2020

Electric carmaker Tesla delivered 499,550 vehicles in 2020. The company has nearly reached the 500,000 target set by founder Elon Musk, Tesla said in a press release.

The company’s annual shipments were up 36% compared to 2019. Tesla delivered a record 180,570 vehicles in the fourth quarter of 2020. This beat Wall Street’s expectations of 174,000 electric vehicles.

Tesla was at full capacity at the end of 2020, according to FT. Sales increased by increasing production at a new plant in Shanghai and the launch of the new Model Y crossover.
