The creator of the Telegram messenger Pavel Durov announced the start of its monetization from next year.
According to Durov, the number of users on the messenger is constantly growing and the costs of traffic and servers increase. And support for a large-scale project like Telegram costs hundreds of millions of dollars. Most of the expenses are made with Durov’s own personal funds, but with current growth, this money is no longer enough. Therefore, it was decided to monetize a number of services.
The creators of Telegram had a choice: sell the service to a bigger player, like WhatsApp did, or start making money directly on the messenger.
The service team chose the second path so that users can continue to trust in a quality service and respect for personal space.
As Pavel Durov assured, the next monetization will be extremely low-key and most users will hardly notice any major changes.
All services currently available to ordinary users on Telegram will remain free. In this way, personal and group chats will not be interrupted by advertising messages, since the creators of the messenger consider it unacceptable. Additional features will be paid for for businesses and users with broader needs.
There will also be a special opportunity to advertise your channel through a special Telegram platform, which will provide maximum convenience and privacy to users.
Thanks to all these innovations, the Telegram team will be able to introduce many new functions and develop a new type of technology company in the future, with universal values.
As Vgorode previously reported, Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Policy announced a competition between “white hackers” to test the reliability of the “Diya” application. The acceptance of applications has already started and the prize fund is 1 million hryvnia.
