They plan to monetize the messenger through additional features for business teams and users with advanced needs. According to Durov, some of these new features will be resource intensive and will pay off as a result.
The Telegram founder emphasized that ordinary users will continue to use the messenger for free.
Durov also announced the appearance in the messenger of his own advertising platform for channels, which «it will provide users with comfort and privacy ”and will allow Telegram to cover the costs of servers and traffic. According to the founder of Telegram, projects of this scale cost hundreds of millions of dollars a year.
Additionally, paid stickers with a percentage of sales may appear for artists on Messenger. The free stickers will also stay in the app.
«If popular public channels are monetized through an ad platform, the owners of these channels will receive free traffic in proportion to their reach. Or if, in addition to the current free stickers, there are paid stickers with advanced features, the artists of these stickers will also receive a share of the revenue, ”said Durov.
The Telegram founder also stressed that he does not plan to sell the company, as the founders of WhatsApp did.
Messenger Telegram, previously founded by Pavel Durov, filed a complaint with the EU regulator against the App Store, which charges a 30% commission for applications.
