Switzerland – Ukraine
November 17, Tuesday, 9:45 PM. Swissporarena, Lucerne. Thassos Sidiropoulos (Greece) – the main referee of the meeting. Broadcast on the television channels Football 1 and Ukraine.
The Ukraine team remains to play the last match of the Nations League of this rally. This tournament showed what our team is capable of. It revealed its strengths and exposed its weaknesses. But it is the last game against Switzerland on the road that will become the most important of the entire team, a kind of test. The result of all efforts depends on this match.
The Ukrainian team lost twice to Germany in this team, responding to the crushing defeat outside Spain with a minimal victory at home. In the match against Switzerland, he also triumphed in the first round. To stay in the strongest division, Andriy Shevchenko’s positions need not lose.

On the one hand, the task does not seem impossible, but on the other, there are personnel problems that threaten our team. Three more players were added to the already sick players on the eve of the game against Switzerland: Dmitry Reznik, Eduard Sobol and Evgeny Makarenko. And if the loss of goalkeeper Vorskla doesn’t seem like a terrible thing, then the loss of Sobol and Makarenko significantly spoils the outlook that is no longer optimistic.
Andriy Shevchenko decided to play it safe and called up the players of the Ukrainian youth national team: Alexander Nazarenko, Serhiy Buletsu and Georgy Sudakov. The head coach of the national team motivated his decision to call these particular players from the youth team by the fact that all of them had just received a negative test and could definitely help in the next meeting.
As for the fight itself, the game will obviously be open. The Swiss will carry on very strongly, as they need victory. We hope that our footballers do not close down and feel on defense. Therefore we expect an open match with mutual pointy moments and a lot of goals.
In the first game, the Swiss covered our team very well in their half of the field. We couldn’t get out of the pressure from the Swiss, but fortunately Vladimir Petkovich’s team couldn’t benefit from this. We hope our coaching staff will draw conclusions from that fight and figure out how to break through the opponent’s high pressure and create their own sharp attacks.
