This was known at an event on the occasion of the signing of a memorandum between the Ministry of Health and representatives of public bodies on the development of the direction of bone marrow transplantation and the popularization of donation in Ukraine, which took place on 29 December.
Stepanov publicly donated cell samples. He noted that the database in Ukraine should contain at least 20 thousand samples, and also urged Ukrainians not to be indifferent.
The publication writes that according to the Ministry of Health, 204 bone marrow transplants were performed in Ukraine during 2020. For the first time, Ukrainian doctors began to perform such transplants from an unrelated donor and have already performed four operations.
There are six bone marrow transplant centers in Ukraine, whose capacity is constantly increasing. The 2021 budget allocated UAH 502 million for the implementation of the transplant pilot project.
Stepanov said that high-tech medical services will develop even faster in 2021.
