In Stuttgart, at the Mercedes-Benz Arena, the rivals of the Ukraine team in Group 4 of League A, teams from Germany and Spain, met. It should be noted immediately that the home team was missing several Bayern Munich players, who, after their recent Champions League victory, Joachim Loew gave the opportunity to rest and did not involve them in this match.
The first half passed with varying degrees of success. At first, the German players created more chances, and their danger came mainly from the right flank of the attack. Three times from the limits of the penalty area Kerer, Draxler and Sane received punches, and all three times the Spanish goalkeeper from Gea played excellently, stopping these corner kicks.
Little by little, the playing advantage passed to the Spanish team. In his composition, Busquets was the closest to success, who in the 22nd minute had a real opportunity to move his team forward, but from close range he could not beat Trapp.
At the beginning of the second half, the Germans still managed to break De Gea. This time Timo Werner, having received a pass from the left roughly on the penalty area line, approached the center and struck deep into the corner of the goal from the right of the Spanish goalkeeper.
In addition, the Spanish players attacked more and the local team tried to act in the counterattacks. In addition, there were opportunities to change the account of both one and the other. However, both goalkeepers performed flawlessly, and at times, such as in the 87th minute, Rüdiger was not quite accurate enough to hit the goal after a corner kick from close range.
The end of the match came at the moment compensated by the referee. Interestingly, at the beginning Daniele Orsato made up 4 minutes for the main time of the second half. But as the German player Ginter received medical attention for a long time, the referee threw in one minute. And it was he who brought good luck to the guests. The long siege of the German goal ended with the ball on the right aimed at the center of the penalty area and, after a discount from teammate José Gaia, he found himself right in front of Trapp’s goal, scoring a saving goal for Spain. And although the German players signaled that Gaia was offside, the referee counted the goal and pointed to the center of the field.
As a result, there was a 1: 1 draw. The result, which was quite satisfactory for the Ukrainian team, which beat Switzerland 2: 1 in a parallel match of this group.
