According to NASA, the SXM-7 was put into orbit to provide satellite transmission services in North America in the S-band to replace two obsolete ships. Its useful life is designed for 15 years. It will complement the constellation of satellites Sirius XM, which began to form in 2008. At the moment, it consists of five vehicles in a geostationary orbit with an altitude of about 35.8 thousand km.
