The US authorities have decided on which companies they will impose sanctions on for their participation in the Nord Stream project, the agency dpa reports, citing a senior US official.

It is noted that not only companies, but also individuals can be subject to sanctions if they do not stop their operations related to the pipeline, including shipping.

“We are in the process of telephone conversations with several of these companies to inform them that they are likely to be involved in activities subject to sanctions,” the official said.

At the same time, he did not name the companies, but noted that many of them do not know that they may be subject to sanctions.

A report on these companies is expected to be presented to the United States Congress within days or weeks.

Construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline was halted nearly a year ago due to US sanctions. And Washington’s new restrictions, to be adopted in the near future, may “bury” the project.
