From the new year until March 31, the population will pay for all consumed electricity at a single rate – 1.68 UAH / kWh.
At a meeting on December 28, the Ukrainian government canceled the preferential rate of 90 kopecks / kWh for the first 100 kWh for residential consumers. The privilege will be canceled as of January 1, 2021, reports RBC-Ukraine.
“Expand PSO mode (special public commitments. – “GORDON”) until March 31, 2021 and set a fixed price for domestic consumers at 1.68 UAH / kWh, “the agency quotes Acting Energy Minister Yuriy Vitrenko.
Thus, from the new year until March 31, the population will pay for all the electricity consumed at a single rate.
“In general, the project of the acting minister Yuriy Vitrenko maintains low electricity rates for the population. Even after the increase, they will be about two times lower than the real prices of the electricity market,” notes RBC-Ukraine.
The last time electricity prices for the population were revised in March 2017, the ExPro portal wrote. They are 0.9 UAH / kWh for the first 100 kWh and 1.68 UAH / kWh for the rest of the monthly consumption.
According to the Ministry of Energy, the tariff for the population in December 2020 does not cover the cost of delivering electricity from power plants to final consumers. Annual subsidies due to low electricity tariffs for the population reached 65-70 billion UAH. On November 26, the head of the Ministry of Energy, Yuriy Boyko, announced a forced review of the approaches to the formation of tariffs for the population in the near future.
The idea of the Ukrainian government to bring domestic electricity rates closer to the market level was supported by the Secretariat of the Energy Community and the European Commission.
