Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal hopes to advance negotiations with the International Monetary Fund next week.
Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said that Kiev expects to receive the next tranche from the International Monetary Fund in the first months of 2021. He stated this on the air of the online conversation “Ukraine and the world”, which was broadcast by NV .
“We have good cooperation with the EU, we received the tranche last week. Next week we hope to advance our negotiations with the IMF, so we have very good prospects,” he said.
Shmyhal pointed out that on December 8, Ukraine attracted $ 600 million by placing government bonds on the foreign market, and on December 15, 51 billion UAH on the domestic market.
“There is a resurgence. Non-residents are coming, that is, Ukraine today, even in this crisis, is interesting to investors, including foreigners. He likes it,” the prime minister said.
He did not mention the exact date of receiving the next tranche of the IMF loan.
“The next leg will definitely be next year. This is not possible this year.[…] If we are talking about an anticipated future, we would like to have it no later than February. February-March: these are the forecasts we are talking about with the IMF, as long as there are no surprises again. ”
Ukraine cooperates with the IMF in a new reserve program. The Fund’s Executive Board approved it on June 9 of this year. It is supposed to allocate $ 5 billion in four tranches. On June 12, Ukraine received $ 2.1 billion from the first tranche.
As Finance Minister Sergei Marchenko said, Kiev expected to receive two more tranches of $ 700 by the end of the year, but this did not happen.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that in the current situation, the Ukrainian economy needs money from the IMF. “It is profitable for us, it is not profitable, now it is like blood for the human body,” he explained.
The first deputy head of the National Bank, Ekaterina Rozhkova, said in late November that Ukraine would not have time to receive the next tranche from the IMF by the end of 2020.
“The IMF has procedures: how long does it take to review, how long does it take to prepare documents, when are they presented to the board, and only after funds are allocated. Considering that it is now almost December 1, the holidays Christmas in Europe begins on December 25, and then the New Year holidays, physically we do not have time to complete this process receiving money this year ”, he explained.
