Shmygal convinces MPs of the need for quarantine
Parliament at its meeting today will consider a decree on the abolition of quarantine at the weekend.
The weekend quarantine helps to reduce people’s activity and reduce the incidence of diseases, there is still no talk of a complete lockdown. This was stated by Prime Minister Denis Shmygal, speaking in the Verkhovna Rada on Tuesday, November 17.
“The weekend quarantine reduced the activity of people in big cities by 19% on Saturday, November 14, by 27% on Sunday, November 15. This was the largest decrease in Ukrainian activity since the close of spring, “Shmygal said.
“If the quarantine of the day off does not ensure a sufficient decrease in social contacts, then the 20 thousand mark every day we can cross in three weeks. If we do not take action, then in a month we will run out of beds, this despite that we have them, the number has doubled. And then there will be the only way out: the introduction of a total blockade, “said the prime minister.
But for now, he said, there is an alternative to the total lockdown: weekend restrictions.
“The main task of the weekend quarantine is to reach a plateau, that is, to set the incidence at the 12 thousand level. If this does not happen, we will be forced to take tougher measures. This is only 6 days in November, which may give Ukraine a chance, “he added. Shmygal.
At the same time, he said that “a decision on a total closure will not be made while we have an alternative.
“Ukraine will be able to receive 8 million doses in the second quarter of next year. In addition, the government and the Ministry of Health are constantly negotiating with global companies to buy additional batches of an effective and proven vaccine,” the prime minister said, speaking of vaccinations
Shmygal also said that as of mid-April, the number of PCR tests was 3.5 thousand a day, and now, up to 50,000 a day. At the same time, by the end of the year, they intend to increase the figure to 75,000 per day.
The prime minister recalled that at the beginning of the pandemic in Ukraine, only 12,500 beds were ready to receive patients. Now their number is 54,000. And every week 2-4,000 new beds are added. “So far, we don’t see a need to deploy mobile hospitals, but those preparations are underway,” he said.
Also, Shmygal said that only 20% of fans are involved in Ukraine, about 700 out of 5000.
And the main task is to provide oxygen. For this purpose, 1.5 billion UAH has been allocated.
Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Health, Maxim Stepanov, said that without quarantine, the daily incidence of coronavirus could reach 30 thousand people.
