Shmygal believes two credit programs will save business

Protest of businessmen under the cabinet

Entrepreneurs will be able to survive the crisis with the help of government credit programs, the prime minister is certain.

During a meeting at the President’s Office on Monday, May 11, Vladimir Zelensky asked about the state of the economy and the operation of programs that should help companies in the quarantine period.

“We must help them now and after quarantine so that they can recover quickly. We need to offer them so-called credit vacations,” said the head of state.

In response, Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said the government has created all the prerequisites for the full work of the updated program. Available loans are 5-7-9%, another program is also being finalized: new money, under which entrepreneurs can obtain loans at a very low interest rate.

“These programs will help Ukrainian companies to resist the difficult economic conditions caused by the epidemic and will also guarantee the preservation of jobs. The main condition of the programs is the preservation of at least 80% of jobs in small and micro enterprises” Shmygal said.

The prime minister also said that, according to the State Employment Center, an additional 140,000 unemployed were registered this month. To help pay people who have lost their jobs, I allocated six billion hryvnias from the Coronavirus Foundation.

The president also commented on the delay in March premiums for doctors working with patients with COVID-19.

Shmygal explained that the money was sent to the regions, however, local authorities were not guided by the current Cabinet resolution, but by the 2003 document from the Ministry of Social Policy. Therefore, despite the availability of funds in the regions, they could not be paid. This week, the government is looking for solutions so that these financial resources are allocated to doctors.

At the same time, the Prime Minister assured that the April payments will be made through the National Health Service and, therefore, there should be no problems.
