Luis Castro’s charges have practically undermined his chances of continuing the European Spring.

Immediately after the unsuccessful match for a Ukrainian football fan at NSC Olimpiyskiy, where Dynamo Kiev lost in the first match of the round of 16 of the UEFA Europa League against Spanish Villarreal (0: 2), the word spread Donetsk Shakhtar, who started at the Roman Stadio Olimpico with two straight streaks against local Roma. It was in the presence of the former Portuguese mentor of the Ukrainian team in front of the rivals that many saw the main factor in the team’s vulnerability, Luis Castro. Unfortunately, on the football field, the fears were confirmed and the Donetsk team, as an unsuccessful beginner sapper, decided to go over all the enemy pampering laid out in advance. Although, it all started very recklessly. Shakhtar played with the attack of the opponents, building a fairly high line, but it was obvious that from the fourth or fifth attempt, Roma’s forwards would avoid these traps.
We needed a ball on our feet, but that was the problem in the first half. The Romans completely took over themselves, so the only thing left for the “mountain women” was to run between zones in defense in an attempt to seize at least a small possession. On defense, Shakhtar are playing pretty bad this season, it was definitely not a secret from anyone. But it just so happened that it was during the reporting match that there were a wide variety of different situations in which Castro’s team failed.
The first alarm sounded in the 6th minute: Trubin lost the first post when taking a corner from the left wing, after which he himself was forced to take the ball from the line at the end with a header from Kumbull. The miner did not understand the message of the rivals and continued taking a leap with the transfer of opponents and the choice of positions in his half of the field. As a result, in the 23rd minute, Pedro escaped from midfield into the Vitao zone, who ended up in the right-back position, and Dodo was forced to secure him from the support zone. The Spaniard got rid of the ball with a pass to the left side of the penalty area to Pellegrini, after which Lorenzo rolled past Trubin.
At the time, there was still a semblance of dynamic balance on the court, and if Junior Moraes had realized his opportunity in the 27th minute, we would have witnessed a completely different game on both sides. But the forward did not close the center of Dodo from the right wing, so there is nothing to talk about. Even Mkhitaryan’s injury did not help the Donetsk side, who started the match reporting as a forward, but were forced to leave the field after 34 minutes. Roma ended the first half calmly.
As it turned out, the most painful blow to Castro’s team’s self-esteem was still ahead. Fonseca gave the order to transfer the initiative to the opponents from the start of the second half, as if he knew that Shakhtar would spoil all his scoring chances in the opening section, after which he would roll back to his own half of the field to make a second run to goal, but it would be intercepted quietly by the “wolves”. The Pitmen performed the script as the top acting school graduates.
The explosion of the home team’s attacks came in the final phase of the match, when substitute Stefan El Shaaravi was just beginning to get used to the field. It was he who, in the 73rd minute, made a pass to the left flank from the center of the Mayoral field, after which the Pitmen defense withdrew from the fight, and the forward overtook Trubin. And, of course, Shakhtar’s “signature” play also took place when serving from opponents’ corners. Mancini finished the set on the left wing four minutes later.
Needless to say, Castro’s team could have scored more goals in their own network in the reporting game. The Ukrainian champions lost, leaving little chance of success. Horrible night for our soccer.
