Alexander Lukashenko held a secret inauguration ceremony, it was not announced in advance, it was not broadcast on television, and representatives from other states were not invited.
Under the protection of the riot police, in an atmosphere of complete secrecy and in a narrow circle of only local officials, Alexander Lukashenko held his next inauguration.
After that, the parade of non-recognition of Batka by the President of Belarus by European countries began, and spontaneous protests within the country began again.
Correspondent.net monitors the situation in Belarus.
Covert operation
Lukashenka’s opening ceremony was not announced in advance. It was not broadcast on television or radio, although this is required by law. On the morning of September 23, Belarusian media noticed police vehicles, military personnel (including those of the honor guard company), and people in disguises who looked like officials near the Independence Palace. Later, two central avenues, Independence and Pobediteley, were blocked in Minsk. The presidential procession accompanied them to the Palace of Independence.
Lukashenka was sworn in, after which the President of the CEC, Lidia Yermoshina, presented him with a certificate from the President of Belarus.
“The day of the inauguration of the President is the day of our victory, convincing and fateful. We not only elected the president of the country, we defended our values, our peaceful life, sovereignty and independence … An unprecedented challenge to our statehood was launched: the challenge of reliable technologies repeatedly elaborated for the destruction of independent states. But we were among the few, perhaps even the only ones, in whom “the color revolution” did not take place, “Lukashenka said.
But his entire opening was by no means a trip to the winner’s event.
“Today we are witnessing an unprecedented situation. The outgoing president, who claims to have obtained more than 80% of the votes in the elections, has carried out a special operation to introduce himself. Under the protection of riot police, in an atmosphere of secrecy and secrecy, in a narrow circle of officials hastily brought in … Honestly, this is more like a gathering of thieves for the coronation of another thief in law. It is obvious that Alexander Lukashenko is exclusively president of OMON and a handful of lying officials, ”Pavel Latushko, member of the Presidium of the Opposition Coordination Council, commented on Lukashenko’s actions.
Street response
After the opening ceremony was known, people in Belarus began to go out for spontaneous protest actions. The arrests began immediately, in particular near the Independence Palace a woman was arrested with a sign “Sasha, take the job.” Opposition telegram channels are calling on Belarusian residents to take to the streets across the country at 6:00 p.m. for large-scale protests. The country disconnects the Internet again.
The opposition called on the Belarusians for indefinite disobedience action.
“This so-called inauguration is, of course, a sham. In fact, Lukashenka has simply retired today. This means that their orders to the power structures are no longer legitimate and cannot be carried out. I, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, am the only elected leader of the Belarusian people. And our task now is to build a new Belarus together, ”said Belarusian opposition leader Svetalana Tihanovskaya.
Parade of non-recognition
The authorities of several European countries refused to recognize Alexander Lukashenko as the legitimate president of Belarus. The German government said it was not ready to recognize Lukashenko as president even after his inauguration. The authorities of Slovakia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Denmark and Poland also made similar statements.
The national Foreign Ministry said Ukraine is preparing an official position on Lukashenka’s secret inauguration.
“As you correctly pointed out, the inauguration was secret. Not a single foreign ambassador was invited, not even the ambassador of the Russian Federation, a trade union state that fully supports Lukashenko. Ukraine’s position is very clear: the elections in Belarus they were not free, fair and transparent. Regarding the evaluation of the inauguration and the political status of President Lukashenko, we will carry out additional consultations to determine our position, “said Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba.
Fears
Belarusian political scientist Andrei Kazakevich believes that today’s inauguration has shown “how insecure the current authorities feel.”
“They feel all the fragility of their political foundations. How concerned they are about the reaction of society and the international community, that in the end such an important and solemn event as the inauguration takes place in secret, and even in violation of the law. This clearly indicates that the authorities are very uncomfortable, ”Kazakevich is sure.
“This coming weekend, the inauguration will be a very important incentive for people to come out and show their opposition to the Lukashenka government. I believe that the next protest actions will have a larger scale than a week ago ”, the expert is sure.
“Lukashenka abandoned the rituals, realizing that they no longer have any meaning. He is a “president” as long as he can seize power by force, that is all he has left. Neither the constitution, nor the law, nor the faith, nor the elections strengthen their power. He has already admitted that he is a dictator and a usurper, what is the use of retouching him ”, sums up the Belarusian political scientist.
