Scientists have named people who are at risk of contracting COVID-19 again

Scientists estimate the risk of COVID-19 reinfection in people over 65

The results obtained underline the importance of social distancing and priority vaccination of this population group.

People over the age of 65 are at increased risk of reinfection with coronavirus infection. This is demonstrated by the results of a study carried out by Danish scientists, published on Wednesday, March 17, by the Lancet magazine.

“We found that the level of protection among the population is 80% or more for people under 65 and about 47% for people 65 and over,” the report says.

The experts pointed out that these data can be explained by age-related changes in the immune system of older people, the so-called “immune aging.”

“These changes affect both the innate and adaptive immune systems and the coordination of the body’s immune responses,” the scientists said.

It is specified that the study was carried out on the basis of data from massive PCR tests in Denmark. In 2020, about 4 million people (69% of the country’s population) completed it.

The study authors emphasize that the results obtained indicate the importance of measures to protect the elderly during a pandemic, first of all, we are talking about distance and priority of their vaccination.

Recall that the Ukrainian Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics (IMBG) is conducting research on the treatment of severe coronavirus pneumonia with stem cells and has already received the first positive results.

Komarovsky previously said how to recover from a coronavirus infection.
