Ukrainian schools can declare vacations for the period of confinement (January 8-24, 2021), since then educational institutions have been prohibited from working full time due to COVID-19.
The corresponding recommendation was published by the Ministry of Education of Ukraine on December 15 on the official website. The department also sent letters to the heads of the local science and education departments.
According to the decree of the Cabinet of Ministers (No. 1236 of December 9, 2020), during the enhanced quarantine – confinement – students are prohibited from attending general secondary education institutions, regardless of their form of ownership. Exceptions – kindergartens, as well as special educational institutions.
The ministry asked schools to organize distance education… This can be done, in particular, using the All-Ukrainian School Online platform (for grades 5-11). It was launched by the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Digital Transformation.
At the same time, the MES “recommends considering, if necessary, declare vacation right now“.
In this context, the Ministry recalled that the duration of vacations in educational institutions during an academic year cannot be less than 30 calendar days.
The academic year must begin on September 1, last at least 175 school days, and end no later than July 1 of the following year.
We add, in accordance with the recommendation of the Ministry of Education and Science, winter holidays will be held in Ukrainian schools. December 25, 2020 to January 10, 2021… However, the institutions can independently determine the dates of the holidays, in agreement with the local educational authorities.
