World champion in four weight classes, one of the best boxers in the world, Mexican Saúl Álvarez won a landslide victory over WBA super middleweight champion, British Callum Smith.
In the first rounds, Saúl Álvarez took a closer look at the opponent, but his advantage was still evident. Despite the huge difference in size, Álvarez could easily bridge distances and work comfortably.
Smith worked more shots, threw more shots, but Canelo was much more accurate.
Starting in the fourth round, Álvarez began investing in strikes. From time to time, he had a crown in the form of a left side. At the same time, Canelo not only performed well on offense, but also on defense.
Canelo’s aggressive work meant that by the ninth round Smith was simply tired and the fight turned into a one-sided beating of the champion.
The judges gave the unconditional victory to Saúl Álvarez – 119-109, 119-109, 117-111.
In addition to Smith’s WBA super belt, Saúl Álvarez also won the vacant WBC title, which David Benavides lost without a fight in August.
