During the inauguration, the newly elected president of Moldova, Maia Sandu, spoke several phrases in Ukrainian.
In total, in the opening speech, which was broadcast on the Moldavia 1 television channel, the President of Moldova used five languages: Moldovan, Bulgarian, Gagauz, Ukrainian and Russian. (scroll to the bottom of the page to see the video).
“I will act in the interest of all citizens to improve living standards and instill confidence in the future,” Sandu said in Russian.
And he added in broken Ukrainian: “I will demand that the relevant state institutions solve the problems of citizens.”
Those present at the inauguration received the President’s speech with applause.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Maia Sandu won the presidential elections in Moldova, which took place on November 15.
On December 16, the Moldovan parliament returned the status of the language of inter-ethnic communication to the Russian language, which actually equated it with the state language. In addition, the parliament lifted the ban on the transmission of Russian television channels.
