The sanctions against Russia for the poisoning of Alexei Navalny may affect the developers of the combat poison Novichok. They will be banned from EU countries and assets in Europe will be frozen.
This was stated by the spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry, Christopher Burger, reports swissinfo.
According to him, the sanctions will be directed at the developers of Novichok and those implicated in the poisoning of Navalny. People on the list will be banned from entering the EU, as well as restricting financial activity in EU countries.
He also noted that he was unable to provide the names to be included on the sanctions list.
“We are delighted that the European Council has unanimously and clearly condemned what happened,” added Burger.
At the same time, according to the German agency dpa, employees of the law enforcement agencies and the State Research Institute for Organic Chemistry and Technology (GosNIIOKhT) will be penalized. It is assumed that it was in this research institute that the Novichok was developed.
Recall, it was previously reported that the EU agreed to sanctions for the Navalny poisoning, and the list will include 6 people and 1 company.
Navalny was poisoned in August, he felt bad on board the plane, which then urgently landed in Omsk. The Russian side denied the poisoning, but transferred Navalny for treatment to the German Charite clinic. Laboratories in several countries and the OPCW confirmed the use of a chemical warfare agent.
