In the first round of the Premier League, defending champions Liverpool hosted Leeds, who returned to the top division after a 16-year hiatus. Jurgen Klopp’s team approached the reporting match fully armed, so the head coach had no trouble choosing the team. His players took possession of the playing advantage immediately after the opening whistle. The scored goal was not long in coming. Already in the third minute, the main referee scored a penalty for playing Koch with one hand, after which Salah confidently converted a penalty kick – 1: 0. After a goal was scored, the hosts allowed the ” peacocks “will control the ball, focusing on playing the second number.

In one of the episodes, Costa managed to send the ball into the net, but the goal was not awarded for an offside position. A few minutes later, the guests issued a legal goal. Harrison received a pass from deep of field, beat two opponents and shot past Alisson – 1: 1. The missed goal sent Liverpool back on the attack. After a few minutes Manet sent the ball into the net, but the goal was not conceded due to the offside position. Klopp’s players kept trying to regain the lead on the scoreboard, and they did it quite quickly. In the 20th minute, Van Dijk closed Robertson’s serve from a corner – 2: 1. Within minutes Bamford was able to equalize the score, but the forward couldn’t break through and found himself one-on-one with Alisson.

Then the “red” took full control of the ball, with the intention of developing the advantage on the scoreboard. This could have happened after Striyk cut his own goal, but Mesliier saved the visitors by knocking the ball out from under the crossbar. And two minutes later, Liverpool unexpectedly failed again. Van Dijk made a serious mistake by giving the ball to Bamford and the forward made the most of Virgil’s carelessness – 2: 2. However, such a count did not last long. Soon Salah brought his team back to the front. The Egyptian took advantage of the rebound of the ball in the penalty area and sent it to the vicinity of the nine with a powerful blow – 3: 2.

After conceding for the third time, Marcelo Bielsa’s chargers regained possession of the ball, but were no longer actively trying to advance. Control of the ball did not last long, after which Liverpool regained it. The hosts carried out attack after attack, trying to increase the scoring gap. They took a few more shots on target, but they posed no real threat to Meslie. Until the end of the first half, Klopp’s team failed to create at least one dangerous moment. Nor did anything come out ahead of his opponent. Thus, the teams took a break with a minimal advantage of the “red”.

Immediately after the restart of the game, the “peacocks” took the ball under their control, but did not advance towards Alisson’s goal. One of the turnovers almost led to a conceded goal. Wijnaldum could have scored with a Keith pass, but he shot right at Meslié. The guests responded with a pass from Bamford with a shot on goal, but it was blocked by van Dyck. A few minutes later, Virgil threatened on goal after a corner kick, but missed.

In the next attack, Firmino found himself in shock position in the penalty area, but hesitated with the ball, allowing himself to be stolen. A few minutes later, Alexander-Arnold comically sent the ball into his own goal after Harrison threw it at Alisson, but thankfully the “red” goal was not counted due to an offside position. After that, the owners, out of the woods, moved into the middle of someone else’s field, where they soon almost arranged a beautiful goal. Mane may have scored after a combination with Salah, but his shot was extremely unsuccessful. Then the Bielsa sentinels took the initiative and managed to restore equality on the scoreboard for the third time. Klich passed to free Costa, then stormed into the penalty area, where he recovered the ball and sent it to the far corner – 3: 3.

After a missed goal, Klopp’s team naturally rushed to attack again. But, unlike in the first half, in the second, he failed to quickly regain the advantage. Meslie’s shots on goal, of course, did occur, but mostly they went off track. The Bielsa players had a great opportunity to take the lead for the first time thanks to a free kick they got. But Phillips couldn’t hit the net with a direct shot. A few minutes later, van Dijk sent the ball back into the net, but the next goal was not conceded due to an attacking foul.

The final segment of the game was dictated by Liverpool, who attacked with great forces. The hosts again and again loaded the ball into the penalty area, but the “peacocks” defended themselves quite easily. In one of the episodes, Firmino had a great opportunity to excel after a pass to Mane, but the Brazilian shot the defender, from whom the ball went for a corner. And after his presentation, the Lersisiders earned another penalty: Rodrigo broke the rules in the fight against Fabinho. Subsequently, Salah approached the ball and coldly scored a hat-trick – 4: 3.

In the time remaining before the end of the game, the tired Leeds no longer found the strength to attack and try to escape. The last minutes of the match were dictated by the hosts, who brought the match to a victorious end. Thus, the current champion of the country started with a difficult victory. And it is that the debutant of the Premier League did not acquire a single point, but left a very good impression of his game. It remains to improve the game on defense. However, this also applies to Liverpool.

In the second round, Liverpool will face Chelsea, while Leeds will play Fulham.
