Warsaw, to please Washington, is trying to block Nord Stream 2 in order to create an alternative hub for the sale of American LNG, Zakharova said.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the Polish regulator’s decision to fine Gazprom and its partners in the Nord Stream-2 project politically motivated, writes TASS on Thursday, October 8.
“Obviously, we are talking about another politically motivated attempt to pressure the Russian gas exporter,” Zakharova said.
“We are not at all surprised by Warsaw’s efforts to use dubious methods, including the use of measures that are clearly not in accordance with the jurisdiction of the Polish authorities, to stop the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline,” he added.
The representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry believes that the decision was made in order to please the United States to create an alternative center for the resale of American liquefied gas to the countries of Eastern Europe.
As a reminder, the Polish regulator fined Gazprom and Nord Stream-2’s partner companies for setting up a joint venture for the project, which was not agreed with the Polish authorities. Within a month, the companies must rescind the deal or a fine will be imposed: $ 7.6 billion from Gazprom and $ 100 million from its partners.
Gazprom intends to appeal against the regulator’s decision.
