If Russia does not take any steps towards Donbass, Ukraine can insist on strengthening sanctions against Moscow. We are talking about a proposal to disconnect Russia from the international payment system.

Leonid Kravchuk, head of the Ukrainian delegation of the Trilateral Contact Group on Settlements in Donbass, announced this on the air of Ukraine 24 TV channel.

According to him, Ukraine will assess the situation in the negotiation process at the end of the year.

“The beginning of the new year will be the beginning of a new standard for our understanding of the situation, our search for new influences and our proposals to put pressure on the aggressor. These can be sanctions, which are called the international payment system. We will ask for it and we will demand, “Kravchuk said.

The head of the Ukrainian delegation, however, is confident that the best way to resolve the situation in Donbass is diplomatic.

“If Russia does not want to reach an agreement diplomatically and politically, Ukraine must do everything possible to stop the aggression and restore territorial integrity,” Kravchuk summarized.

Let us remind you that last week Ukraine initiated an extraordinary meeting of the TCG to consider the implementation of the Normandy Four agreements. An extraordinary meeting was scheduled to take place this week.

In addition, the head of the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG Leonid Kravchuk proposed holding a “Normandy meeting” at the leadership level at the end of 2020.
