Two Russian diplomats accused of espionage were recognized as “persona non grata” in Bulgaria. Russians have 72 hours to leave the country.

This was announced by the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Today, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry received a letter from the prosecutor’s office with the decision to suspend the proceedings against two Russian diplomats due to their immunity.

“Within its competence, the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has taken the necessary measures in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations,” the department noted.

The Bulgarian side has already notified the Russian embassy of its decision.

Let us remind you that the Bulgarian prosecution charged two Russian diplomats with espionage. According to the prosecutor’s office, the diplomats collected classified information on the Bulgarian army and transmitted it to Russian intelligence.

This is the second time in a year that Bulgaria has denounced Russian diplomats for espionage, a similar incident in January.

In addition, this year Austria for the first time in the country’s history expelled a Russian diplomat, who was also suspected of espionage.
