Russian hackers gained access to Microsoft’s source code

According to the company, cybercriminals could only view Microsoft’s source code, but not make changes to it.

Hackers linked to Russia were able to access Microsoft Corp.’s internal systems and view the internal source code. The Wall Street Journal reported.

Microsoft has reportedly confirmed that it downloaded software from its provider SolarWinds and was infected with malicious code. Thus, cybercriminals gained access to Microsoft’s internal networks.

“We found unusual activity on some internal accounts, and after checking, we discovered that one account was used to view source code in various repositories,” the corporation said.

The company said that hackers could only view the code, not edit it. It is not reported which products were attacked.

It was previously reported that Microsoft in recent months has registered several hacker attacks by Russian and DPRK state-related groups against pharmaceutical companies.

In addition, the United States Department of Justice accused Russia of a cyber attack on the government network. This was stated by the attorney general of the United States, William Barr.
