Russian courts ruled to evict about 600 Ukrainians from Crimea
At the same time, the Russian authorities are relocating their citizens to the peninsula – more than 140 thousand people, said the ambassador general of the political direction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
Russian courts ruled to evict almost 1,000 people from Crimea, of whom about 600 are citizens of Ukraine. This was stated by the Ambassador General of the Political Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Larisa Gerasko, in a conference dedicated to Crimea, reports Interfax-Ukraine on Wednesday, October 21.
“The Russian courts issued orders to evict almost a thousand people from the territory of Crimea, of which about 600 are citizens of Ukraine. There is also a violation of international humanitarian law, such as the resettlement of their own population by the Russian authorities in the territory of the ARC. According to international organizations, more than 140 thousand Russians have moved registration for Crimea “, – said Gerasko.
According to the Hague conventions, Russia does not have the right to impose its citizenship, but at the same time the Russian Federation automatically extended its citizenship to all citizens of Ukraine in Crimea and stateless persons. This decision had absolutely negative consequences for the rights of residence and freedom of movement.
Furthermore, the right to justice is violated in Crimea, as Russia has not complied with a single article of the Hague conventions and has not upheld Ukrainian legislation on the territory of Crimea.
As underlined by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the Russian Federation violates the fundamental right to life, liberty and security in annexed Crimea, making possible the enforced disappearance of people (during annexation in Crimea, more than 40 people disappeared, including pro-Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar activists and journalists).
Russia also violates the rights of those arrested: they are denied medical assistance, they are illegally transferred from Crimea to colonies on the territory of Russia, they are kept in inhumane conditions, they do not allow Ukrainian diplomats to see their own citizens. Russia violates freedom of thought, conscience, belief, religion (the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, Jehovah’s Witnesses are banned in Crimea, supporters of Muslim groups are persecuted), persecutes people for expressing their disagreement with the leadership Russian, for criticizing the annexation of Crimea even on social media, violates journalists, freedom of peaceful assembly and association, right to preserve the identity of culture and traditions and property rights of residents.
As a reminder, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is initiating a new stage of interaction with international partners regarding the Crimean Platform. The actions will be aimed at adopting new measures to vacate Crimea.
In turn, Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that the Crimean platform is designed to structure international efforts to vacate the peninsula, as well as keep this issue in the priorities of international politics.
