The Lausanne Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) confirmed WADA’s decision of December 2019 to exclude Russia from major sporting events for doping.
The CAS generally supported WADA’s decision to disqualify. The sentence expires on December 16, 2022.
Russia, whose athletes performed without an anthem and under a neutral flag at the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang, he will be forced to act in the same way at the Tokyo Games in the summer of 2021 and at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing.
Only those athletes who prove not to be involved in doping will be allowed to participate in the Olympic Games under a neutral flag.
The same goes for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. It is still not entirely clear whether the Russian team will be able to enter the field in a white uniform and without an anthem, or whether a team in any way is completely prohibited from participating in both the national team and in the final of the 2022 World Cup.
Furthermore, the country will not be able to host major sporting events.
The Euro 2020 decision does not applySince UEFA has not adopted the WADA code, the Russian team will be able to play in the tournament under its own flag and anthem.
