Roscosmos is considering colonizing Venus
Roskosmos boss Dmitry Rogozin said that Venus is the Russian planet. He noted that a joint program with the Americans has already been developed, as well as a separate Russian mission to this planet.
Rogozin said in a comment for the Russian edition of RIA Novosti about the new mission to Venus. As the director of Roscosmos pointed out, in the context of the discovery of biomarkers by scientists in the atmosphere of this planet, there are reasons to believe that it is possible to live on it.
“We have on the agenda the topic of restoring the exploration of Venus – together with the Americans, the Venera-D project. We are also considering a separate mission to Venus. We believe that Venus is still a Russian planet,” Rogozin said.
He added that mission projects for the exploration of Venus are included in the space activities program of the Russian Federation for 2021-2030. The next mission is scheduled for 2027-2029. The cost of the mission of the Russian Federation is 17 billion rubles. Some of the Americans are the same. But Roscosmos has yet to receive funding.
However, later, the director of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Anatoly Petrukovich, said that Russia could independently finance a mission to Venus. He noted that if there is no overspending, the mission will be implemented by 2030.
But Roskosmos executive director of promising programs and science, Alexander Bloshenko, doubted life could exist on Venus.
“The detection by remote astronomical observations in the atmosphere of Venus of chemicals that can be attributed to chemical markers of vital activity cannot be considered as objective evidence of the existence of life on the planet. Today, reliable scientific data on this score alone they can be obtained through contact studies of the surface and atmosphere of Venus. ” Bloshenko said.
