300 Russian military instructors went to the Central African Republic (CAR) at the request of the country’s government. The Russians will train the military of the Central African Republic’s national army, according to the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

“We are closely monitoring the development of the situation in the Central African Republic. We are seriously concerned that the events of recent days have led to a sharp deterioration of the situation in the area of ​​guaranteeing the security of this State,” the statement said.

The Foreign Ministry added that the corresponding committee of the UN Security Council was notified.

In addition, the department said that they are monitoring the situation in the CAR. “The advance of paramilitary groups through the country, whose actions are well coordinated and fed from abroad, has acquired the character of a massive attack with the aim of destabilizing the internal situation and interrupting the electoral process,” the ministry said.

In addition, it was learned that the issue of the additional reinforcement of the contingent of the UN Multidisciplinary Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MONUSCA) is being resolved through the transfer of part of the peacekeeping forces of the UN Mission in Sudan from the south. Rwandan troops are also reported to have been dispatched to the Central African Republic.

It was previously reported that on December 19, armed rebels from the anti-government Coalition of Patriots for Change took control of the city of Mbaiki, located about 100 kilometers from the city of Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic.
