The meeting of the political subgroup in the Trilateral Contact Group on Donbass on March 17 did not take place because the Russian side brought back Maya Pirogova, convicted of terrorism in Ukraine.
This was reported by representatives of Ukraine in the TCG Denis Kazansky and Sergey Garmash. At the same time, the Russians issued a statement that Kiev was allegedly “trying to create a pretext for a military adventure.”
Kazansky on Telegram clarified that in addition to Pirogova, some “LPNR public figures” were brought to the meeting.
“In response to the request of the OSCE moderators to remove this person, the Russians refused. Therefore, there were simply no negotiations in the subgroup. Other working groups worked as usual,” he wrote.
In turn, Garmash explained that the Ukrainian side from the beginning warned about the refusal to participate in the work if Russia tries to involve Pirogova in the negotiations.
“If Moscow and its puppets wanted a dialogue, they would have listened to us. But … A report began from the political subgroup, the citizen Pirogova together with Nikanorova, invited by the Russian Federation of ORDO. The Ukrainian delegation left the room. The political group’s report is blocked, as is the working group itself, ”he wrote on his Facebook page.
At the same time, the representative of Russia in the TCG Boris Gryzlov accused Ukraine of allegedly preparing a “military adventure in the Donbass” and “bringing new forces to the line of contact, trying to return fire” to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. .
According to him, quoted by RIA Novosti, “the militias rarely respond to the bombings.”
Note that on March 16 alone, Russian armed formations violated the ceasefire nine times, using, among other things, 82mm mortars. As a result of the bombing, a Ukrainian military man suffered combat trauma.
As OBOZREVATEL reported, one day earlier, on March 16, Russia had already tried to involve Pirogova in the negotiations at the TCG, presenting her as an “expert” from Donetsk.
Maya Pirogova was convicted of fraud and apartment scam in 2007, and in 2018, for terrorism (in absentia).
