A brilliant game last season raised expectations for the Lugansk team. Of course, Zorya is not classified as rivals to Dynamo and Shakhtar, but Skrypnyk’s team should beat rivals like Rukh by definition. So at least it seems from the outside. In fact, we have a short bank, new rumors about economic problems and participation in the European Cup, where the first Lugansk match was filled with despair.
In such a situation, any rival to Zorya is a pretty serious test. And even more so “Rukh”, who, although inferior in ability to most clubs, but usually plays diligently, like a good student who really wants to raise his status to an excellent student.
Viktor Skripnik did not significantly change the lineup compared to the game in Leicester. Yurchenko, who missed the match by disqualification, was replaced by Gladky. It is clear that Alexander acted on the edge, while Lunev sank to midfield. Nikita Shevchenko got a break, so Nikola Vasil defended the goal. Actually, these are all changes. The defense line consisted of Favorov, Vernidub, Tsvek and Khomchenovskiy, Nazarina, Ivanisenya and Kochergin also entered the midfield, Kabaev acted as Gladky’s partner in attack.
Ivan Fedyk threw newcomer Roman Gagun into battle, who covered the right flank of the defense along with Maryan Mysyk. On the opposite side, the link between Glikha and Bohdan Boychuk operated. Stamenkovich and Duts remained in the center of defense, although Paramonov served a penalty. Valeriy Fedorchuk got a spot in midfield, replaced Brickner and became the third corner of the triangle with Martynyuk and Rusin. Finally, in the attack, Kondrakov, who went to the Dynamo, was replaced by Kuharevich.
It is clear that Zorya tried to play the first number. However, the traditional short pass in midfield was met by a rather dense defense from “Ruh”, who is not so easy to pass. In fact, before the break, the hosts managed to make only three accentuated shots on goal. Lunev, after mixing from flank to center, attempted to turn under the far post – Bandura played very well. In the 26th minute, the goalkeeper covered the ball in the bottom corner after Kochergin struck from the penalty line (Nazarin made a precise cross to Vlad from the left flank). Finally, Kabaev overcame the play after Kochergin’s shot, but the angle was sharp, so the striker hit the net from outside the goal.
Rukh only had one noteworthy moment, but perhaps even more dangerous than the residents of Lugansk. Boychuk entered the penalty area and beat under the defender from 12 meters, but Vasil played well, parrying the blow at the bottom corner.
So, for Lviv, everything was going quite well: we managed to cope with the pressure from “Zorya”, while the guests, it was felt, would have a chance to fight back after the break. If not for one thing, already in the compensated time of the first half, Luhansk’s team unsuccessfully played the standard, the ball bounced towards Vernidub and Gagun got into his leg on a sliding tackle. Yuri Ivanov first showed a yellow card and signaled the break. However, the video assistant recommended to the referee to watch the replay, after which Ivanov showed the right-back a direct red. In fact, Roman tucked a straight leg into Zarya’s defender’s ankle.
It is unlikely that Gagun acted this way on purpose. The guy who just moved from “Agribusiness” tried not to replay the episode. Like the whole team, you could tell she was eager to take points away from the bronze medalist of the last championship. Too good a mood for the game may explain the yellow card for speaking to the referee with such an experienced player as Yaroslav Martynyuk. And it was Martynyuk who finally dispelled “Rukh’s” chances for at least a draw, when in the 49th minute he shoved Kochergin from behind in the leg in midfield. Either the second yellow or the direct red (the broadcast did not give a clear answer), and the people of Lviv are still nine men against an opponent who individually significantly surpasses it. When the first goal comes, it is a matter of time.
We actually had to wait a little over three minutes for the goal to be scored. And then Khomchenovskiy, breaking down the left flank, cut the serve to the goalkeeper’s line: Gladkiy, located between the two center-backs, hit his head under the far post.
To the credit of the UPL newcomer, even without two players, he tried to play actively and pushed ahead with great strength. Of course, it was a gamble, but what difference is there in how to lose: to be with the whole team in the penalty area and still fail, or to look for an opportunity, even if it is ghostly. And Rukh came close to leveling the score. In the 63rd minute, “Dawn” was saved by Vasil for the second time. After a free kick from the left flank and a teammate discount, Duts kicked from the goalkeeper line, but the goalkeeper successfully moved to the goal line and blocked the ball in the lower corner.
Zorya no longer made such gifts, instead starting to use the giant free zones that formed in the opponent’s half of the field. Finally, in the 76th the Lugansk team doubled the advantage. The midfield cut turned out to be a four-for-two outing. Kabaev took Gladkyy out on a date with Bandura, Alexander shot the post, and Kochergin was the first to finish. The match could be over, but before the final whistle, “Zorya” managed to fix a win. Substitute players participated in this. First, Rufati, who replaced Favorov on the right flank, shot at Ivanisenya, who shot from eight meters below the near post. And already in the time compensated by the referee, the Iranian Sayadmanesh, rented to Fenerbahce, became famous with the defender and put the ball in the far corner of the goal, which Geret was already defending. Ivan Fedyk replaced Bandura at 90, but the UPL rookie failed to defend the remaining minutes with zero.
As a result, 4: 0 – “Zorya” was able to dispel bad thoughts about an unsuccessful trip to England on the eve of the meeting with “Braga”. Well, “Rukh’s” emotionality is of course good, but in this particular match she played a cruel prank on him.
