The director, People’s Artist of Ukraine, Roman Viktyuk, died at the age of 85. At the end of October, the director was admitted to the hospital with a coronavirus.

“Roman Grigorievich died in hospital, it happened today,” said the interlocutor of the agency.
At the end of October, the director was admitted to the hospital with coronavirus. Initially, he was admitted to the therapy department, but his condition worsened and Viktyuk was transferred to intensive care. He was at the Bakhrushin Brothers City Clinical Hospital in Moscow.
Ukrainian, Russian actor and theater director, Ukrainian and Russian folk artist Roman Viktyuk was born on October 28, 1936 in Lvov. He studied at the State Institute of Theater Arts. (Moscow). After graduating, he returned to Lviv, where he worked as an actor at the local Young Spectator Theater, and later as a director. Then he worked in Tver, Vilnius, Odessa, Tallinn, Kiev (Kiev Theater of Young Spectators), Saratov, Kazan, Riga, Leningrad, Moscow. In 1991 Viktyuk created his own theater in Moscow.
The director has directed some 250 plays (among the most famous – Maids, Madame Butterfly, Lolita, Lady without camellias). His productions have always been genuinely quirky, brilliant and original.
