From the first minutes Ruslan Kostyshin got Nikita Kravchenko, replacing Alexey Zozulya in the right-back position. This is a debut for a young player in European competition, yet almost the entire team made their debut only in the last round against “Aris” (2: 1). Kravchenko already received a yellow card early in the fight, although it seemed that the referee was too harsh on the Ukrainian footballer.

Rijeka couldn’t count on last season’s top scorer, Antonio Colak, who left the team before the start of Europa League qualification. Local coach Simon Rozhman decided to duplicate Kolos’ scheme and also came out with three central defenders and two insiders. However, the specific player positions came as a surprise not only to us, but also to the local press.

The debut of the match was left with the hosts, who focused on the flank attacks, as well as the standards won after them. After two innings from the corners, “Rijeka” managed to create moments in the opening, first his own striker prevented Pavicic from scoring, and then Volynets rescued, reflecting a direct shot from the corner.

For a long time, Kostyshin’s guards could not find a way out to attack. However, over time, he was successful and the guests pushed the game away from its goal, thus leveling the situation on the field. The moment when Antyukh with a blow to the head in the fall was already a full-blown target. In general, before the break, if the Croats still had an advantage (3-0) in shots on goal, then in the box on the field it was not felt at all. “Kolos” got used to it and at the end of time he was even able to score “in the locker room”. But Evgeniy Novak missed from an advantageous position, breaking over the gate.

The second half started in an equal fight. Kolos’ first episode of danger in goal came twenty minutes before the end of regulation time, when Andriyashevich shot over the goal from a good position. Before that, Lysenko managed to get into an offside position several times, but this only confirms that Kolos spent most of his time on the other side of the field.

Literally immediately after Andriyashevich’s moment, in unison with the rain, Kostyshin decided to throw Seleznev into battle, traditionally replacing Lysenko with him. It is true that the first opportunity was with the “joker” of the owners of Kulenovich, who could hit with the head much more dangerous than with the shoulder, as in the end it happened. This grenadier continued to tense the strongholds of Kovalev’s team, while Seleznev busied himself with his predecessor’s favorite business, regularly finding himself in an offside position. But one day Kravchenko wonderfully brought him to the point of lumbago, sadly the opponent interrupted a possible assist to Smirny.

Seleznev had a super moment just before the end of regulation time, when a downpour was already flooding the field. True, Evgeny never managed to cope with the slimy field, as a result, three attempts to hit the ball with emphasis in a row were unsuccessful.

During the entire second half, teams of two did not hit a single shot, although they created more chances than before the break. The nervousness is evident, it reached its climax in extra time. João Pereira Escoval, who appeared on the field especially in extra time, scored the home team’s winning goal. It happened at the end of the first overtime, there was a corner kick, Kirill Petrov lost a fight on horseback, and the Portuguese defender from “Rijeka” hit the ball into the net with a rebound off the crossbar. It is true that at that time, the field had finally turned into a swimming pool. Essentially, it was impossible to speak of countermeasures by Kolos under such conditions.

Five minutes before the end of the second overtime, the easiest goal of his career was scored by Franko Andriyashevich, who scored from a few tens of centimeters, after Evgeny Volynets released the ball from his hands and gave the opponent a chance to hit him. to the arch, which was left empty. None of the defenders ran for a safety net and, in vain, the ball was left in a puddle and literally stopped in front of the line. Unfortunately, Andriyashevich ran and enthusiastically hit the round at the net.

To the guests’ credit, they fought to the end for their chances ahead, but stumbled over the rudeness and even the rudeness of the hosts, who did not hesitate to use any method to achieve the goal. The winners are not judged – “Rijeka” moves on to the qualifying knockout round, where they will play “Copenhagen”. “Kolos” ends her debut season in the European Cup, and gets to work on her mistakes.
