The country’s Foreign Ministry said it does not see progress in removing obstacles to the continuation of the Treaty under the new conditions.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry said the country had initiated internal procedures to withdraw from the Open Skies Treaty (OON). This is stated in the statement from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs released on Friday, January 15.

“Due to the lack of progress in removing obstacles to the continuation of the operation of the Treaty under the new conditions, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is authorized to announce the initiation of internal procedures for the withdrawal of the Russian Federation from the Don, “says the message.

It should be noted that once the procedures are completed, a notification will be sent to the “depositaries”.

Recall that in November last year, the United States officially withdrew from the Open Skies Treaty, stating that Russia is not complying with its obligations under it.

After that, the Kremlin said the treaty lost its relevance to Moscow after the United States abandoned it.
