Final
Novak Djokovic (Serbia, ATP №1) – Rafael Nadal (Spain, ATP №2)
0-3 (0-6; 2-6; 5-7)
The Serbian tennis player was the first to serve in this fight. And the first game turned out to be difficult for him. With a score of 40-15, nothing seemed to threaten Novak’s redoubts, but Nadal managed to collect three balls in a row and add a break point, which he realized the first time. The beginning is really dramatic for the best tennis player in the world. Nadal responded with his serve in much the same way, allowing the opponent to go 40-40 from 40-15, but the Spaniard put the next two points in his piggy bank. It seemed unrealistic, but the impression was that Djokovic was swimming. The Serbian returned to deliver his serve and Rafa acted perfectly in context: he literally flew around the pitch and was almost not wrong. The character of this legendary Spaniard showed the moment in his next serve: to be able to play three breaks and complete a playing ace, this is only possible for this bulldog (as Nadal is often called). Dribbling and losing 4 points in a row with his serve is a sentence for Novak. Rafael brought the matter to its logical conclusion on his own. The first batch is dry for God Roland Garros. Nobody expected this. Since the 341st match at Grand Slam tournaments, Djokovic has only lost one set for the third time with a score of 0-6. Before that, Dominik Tim and Marat Safin were able to beat him with such a score.
Novak also started the second set with problems, but nevertheless, when the score was over, he managed to push the opponent and make him make a mistake. Nadal too, although not so confidently, took his game. But the Serbian’s success turned out to be permanent. In a bitter fight, he lost his second serve of the game and released the opponent again. Nadal just performed superbly on the counterattacks, and Novak often made mistakes on top of everything. When the score was 3-1, Rafa made another break (although it would be more correct to say that Novak gave up his game). Everyone understood that the second batch was moving according to the script of the first. The Serb looked completely confused, he didn’t know what to do. The enemy demonstrated superhuman speed and mechanical precision in their actions. Another game that Djokovic still managed to take advantage of, but no more. Born for the earth: this is the name that the Spanish received. And only they can support the best (???) tennis player in the world with a similar score. 6-2 and a game of historic victory.
The Serbian started the third set with an easy win on his serve. Nadal acted in his own style, nothing could divert him from the path he had drawn. Novak took his second serve, albeit with a crackle, having managed to notice only the “plus” indicator. But Rafa stubbornly bet on his own balls and expected a mistake from his opponent. It didn’t take long. Djokovic missed the third serve, allowing three unforced and giving it to the opponent to zero. And in the next game in Nadal the “typical Rafa” woke up. In the fight, stubbornly defending his ball, the Spaniard still allowed the opponent to relive the intrigue in the match and make a reverse break. Novak smelled blood, confidently took up his serve and took the lead for the first time in the match. The Spaniard recovered quickly, took up his game and had a chance to make another break, but the Serbian was saved. The intrigue lived on, it was born. The 5-5 score gave reason to think: what to expect from both, if Novak will be able to drag the match to the fourth game or if Rafael will complete everything in this set. And luck went to the second person and the first: the place with which she was for him throughout the game. Rest in Serbian service and successful service for the title: Nadal prepared this dish perfectly (excellent – Spanish). 7-5 – without a doubt, this fight will fall on the pages of tennis history.
For Nadal, this victory at the French Open earned him a record 20th Grand Slam title, a record 13th title at Roland Garros and his 100th tournament win.
