The Verkhovna Rada has postponed the recruitment of certain categories of citizens for military service so that they can continue their professional activities.

The corresponding bill at first reading was approved at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada on 5 November. 282 parliamentarians voted in favor of this decision.

We are talking about a bill to amend Article 17 of the Law of Ukraine “On Military Service and Military Service” on the postponement of compulsory military service for certain categories of citizens. It was started by Prime Minister Denis Shmygal.

The document of 03/04/2020 was withdrawn in relation to the resignation of the government and was reintroduced without changes by the new Cabinet of Ministers with the same name as project No. 3689 of 06/18/2020, which at the time of the preparation of this review remained immobile.

Thus, the bill proposes to supplement the eighth paragraph of part 13 of art. 17 specified by law. In particular, introduce a postponement of conscription for military service to continue professional activities, which must be provided people from the base of the civil protection service throughout the period of their service.

The bill still awaits a second reading. The adopted document will enter into force the day following its publication. After that, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, within a month, must adapt its own normative legal acts to this law. In addition, ensure that ministries and other central executive authorities harmonize their normative legal acts.
