Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal said during a government meeting that there will be no more weekend quarantine in Ukraine. At the same time, the government is developing a balanced solution to strengthen the quarantine in the country.

For more information on what the Cabinet of Ministers is planning, see the RBC-Ukraine material.

So, Shmygal said that the weekend quarantine had a positive effect. In the last week alone, 6,000 cases of coronavirus infection were recorded in Ukraine less than previously expected. We also managed to stabilize the situation with the occupation of hospital beds due to COVID-19.

“There is a leveling off of the situation with the occupation of beds, which has been at the level of 27-28 thousand for a month,” Shmyhal said.

Now the government is working out a balanced solution to toughen the quarantine. Meanwhile, in Ukraine, both on weekends and on weekdays, quarantine restrictions of the “orange” zone will apply.

“The Cabinet of Ministers is still making the most balanced decision regarding the possible strengthening of quarantine restrictions. According to the law, the government will announce the decision 7 days before its introduction,” said the prime minister of Ukraine.

Possible restrictions may apply, in particular to holidays. The government has already conducted a survey among local authorities.

So, according to Shmygal, the mayors and heads of the Regional State Administration agree to a total ban or the introduction of partial restrictions on the work of holiday fairs. In addition, almost 90% of the city mayors supported a total ban on concerts. Another 60% of local authorities support the introduction of restrictions during the establishment of the New Year tree.

Previously, the government reported that they are preparing to introduce a strict quarantine for the New Year holidays.

In addition, the Minister of Culture, Alexander Tkachenko, announced the need to introduce a blockade for the New Year holidays for two weeks.

At the same time, Oleksiy Danilov, secretary of the Defense and National Security Council, said that a lockdown would be introduced in Ukraine anyway. The only question remains when exactly this will be done: in December or January.
