Strict quarantine in Ukraine can be returned in case of full occupancy of assigned hospital beds for COVID-19 patients. It is not advisable to tighten the quarantine today.

This was stated by the chief medical officer, Viktor Lyashko, in an interview with “Ukrainian truth. Life”.

According to him, now it is not necessary to introduce a strict quarantine, but they can return to it when the places of the hospitals are full. He also added that 50,000 beds were prepared thanks to a strict quarantine in spring.

“The quarantine worked 100%. The system was prepared, there was no outbreak, there was no fatality, and now we are ready to continue working in conditions of a greater number of cases of the disease, without significantly affecting the economy in the framework of the adaptive quarantine, “says Lyashko.

He also added that the Ministry of Health is preparing calculations of what morbidity within 1-2 weeks will lead to full filling of beds.

“So, as a health doctor, I will say: look, we have reached this figure, we have 2 weeks left, and we have no choice but to follow the example of Israel, Madrid, Paris and introduce strict restrictive quarantine measures. It will no longer be possible to find a balance between the economy and saving lives, “Lyashko stressed.

We will recall, earlier, the Minister of Health, Maxim Stepanov, said that Ukraine can now not follow the path of European countries and return the strict quarantine.

He also noted that it is now necessary to find a balance between the work of the economy and compliance with restrictions.
