The Spanish government has decided to tighten quarantine restrictions in 37 districts of Madrid and the suburbs. The measures will affect 850 thousand inhabitants of the Spanish community.

Reported by The Local.

Residents will be prohibited from traveling outside of their neighborhoods. An exception will be made only for those traveling to work, study or to the doctor. In addition, gatherings of more than six people are prohibited.

The lockdown will last about two weeks. During this time, parks will be closed and bars and restaurants should cut the number of visitors in half.

In addition, as reported by El País, the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, has said that the community of Madrid will use the army to combat the spread of COVID-19.

The military will be able to help police officers to control the situation on the streets, as well as to carry out disinfection measures.

Please note that this is not the first time quarantine measures have been reinforced in Madrid. The last time the measures were tightened was at the end of July.

We will recall, at the end of July, that the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that the country is safe for both tourists and Spaniards themselves.
