The journalists of the Polish television channel “Belsat” Yekaterina Andreeva and Maksim Kalitovskiy, who were arrested today in Minsk, will be tried. Until the trial, the journalists will remain in isolation.
The Belarusian edition TUT.by reports on this.
They drew up protocols against journalists for allegedly violating the media law and disobedience to representatives of the public force.
The police officer who wrote the protocols said that the trial in the case of journalists Andreeva and Kalitovskiy will not take place before September 15. Until then, the detained journalists will remain in the Akrestsin Street Pretrial Detention Center in Minsk.
Let us remind you that today a women’s march was held in Minsk demanding a new presidential election, as well as in support of the detained representatives of the opposition coordination council. Before the start of the march, the security forces detained the protesters who had gathered in Freedom Square.
Human rights activists announced the arrest of more than 30 participants of the march, and among those detained were journalists from “Belsat”.
Furthermore, opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya called on the Belarusian security forces to stop the violence and also threatened them with being responsible for crimes against the people.
