The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights reported that 450 cases of torture and ill-treatment of persons deprived of liberty were documented in Belarus. At the same time, it is observed that the relatives of at least six people do not know the whereabouts and state of health of their loved ones.

This was reported by the UN press service.

The agency claims to have information on episodes of violence against children and women, including sexual violence.

“We are extremely alarmed by the hundreds of reports of torture and other ill-treatment in pre-trial detention centers,” the statement said.

The UN demanded that the Belarusian authorities not only carry out a full investigation, but also bring the perpetrators to justice and compensate the damage caused to the victims and their families.

We recall that today is taking place on the 24th of protests in Belarus, students from Minsk universities have joined the national strike.

In addition, President Alexander Lukashenko has threatened students with military service for participating in the protests.

We add that the United States called for the release of protesters detained in Belarus.
