Popular destinations among Ukrainians may open in July

The tourist season in European resorts for international tourists can start in July, as declared by officials from several countries. RBC-Ukraine understood what popular addresses could be opened in the near future.

In many countries, tourism forms a significant part of GDP, providing jobs for millions of people. That is why the governments of the states dependent on this industry were the first to speak cautiously about the gradual restoration of tourism.

Greece

The Greek authorities have prepared a detailed plan to restore the tourism sector due to the coronavirus pandemic. The plan, drawn up by the Ministry of Tourism and the National Health Organization, establishes strict rules for restaurants, beaches, hotels and other tourist accommodation, as well as ferries and other means of transportation.

Greek officials say this is done for the safety and comfort of tourists, given the situation with the pandemic, and not to create inconvenience for them.

“This summer’s tourist experience may be slightly different from what you had in previous years. Perhaps the bars will be closed and there will be no crowds, but you can still get a fantastic experience in Greece. As long as the global epidemic is on a downward path” – Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said.

According to him, the authorities are now working to ensure that, as of July 1, the tourism business works and that the country is open to tourists.

Montenegro

In a month and a half, also from July 1, Montenegro plans to resume the tourist season, this country’s prime minister, Dusko Markovic said. According to the director of the National Tourism Organization (NTO) of Montenegro Zelka Radak-Kukavicic, the authorities have a moderate optimism that part of the main tourist season will be reached in July and August.

According to her, from May 18, and possibly before, hotels, restaurants and bars will be open to visitors.

“The competent authorities are committed to preparing a protocol to be applied in hotels, the private sector and hospitality,” he explained.

Georgia, Turkey and other countries

Georgia plans to follow suit, plans to open for tourists from July 1. The weakening of the quarantine and preparations for the tourist season are also beginning in Cyprus. In June, cafes, bars and restaurants will open on the island.

Turkish authorities announced plans to start the tourist season soon. But in the first stage, Turkish resorts will receive national tourists, and in the second half of the summer foreigners will be able to go there, said Tourism Minister Mehmet Ersoy.

In the near future, the governments of the Czech Republic, Austria and Slovakia may open their borders, even for tourists.

What will happen to air traffic?

And although the authorities of European countries speak of specific dates for the opening of the tourist season, for Ukrainian tourists the question of removing restrictions on air traffic remains open. Formally, leaving the country is not prohibited, but the history of Ukrainian migrant workers has shown that difficulties in this regard are very likely.

Also, as Igor Korolenko, director of the Zagorye travel company explained, the fact that several airlines announced the start of flights to Ukraine (we are talking about Czech Airlines, Wizz Air) does not mean that these flights will be carried out.

“Any airline in the world can enter a flight in any direction of the system. But there is permission from the aviation authorities to fly and permission from the airport. Neither the Czechs, nor Wizz Air, nor anyone else has that permission. At times Normal is a two-hour technical procedure. In the meantime, it’s just a marketing ploy by the airlines announcing they want to fly. And people must understand that just because they bought a ticket doesn’t mean the plane will fly. ” Korolenko observed.
