Pornhub got into a scandalous situation for videos with children
In the NYT column, there were stories of girls who unsuccessfully tried to have intimate videos removed from a porn site. The videos were made before adulthood and against her will.
The New York Times has published an article by columnist Nicholas Christophe on how Pornhub makes money from videos with minors.
The author cited stories of girls whose videos appeared on a pornographic site without their consent and were made before they came of age. According to him, “Pornhub is full of rape videos,” which speaks of an imperfect moderation system.
“After a 15-year-old girl disappeared in Florida, her mother found her on Pornhub, in 58 sex videos. The sexual harassment against a 14-year-old California girl was posted on Pornhub, and it was not the company but a partner of class who reported it to the authorities. who saw the video. In each case, the perpetrators were arrested for the attacks, but Pornhub escaped responsibility for sharing the videos and benefiting from them, “Christophe said.
Pornhub, like YouTube, allows users to post their own videos. About seven million new videos appear on the site each year, but Pornhub is unclear on how much content is illegal and allows you to download it.
“Therefore, even if the video of the rape is removed at the request of the authorities, it may be too late: the video is still alive when shared with others or uploaded over and over again,” the author writes.
Most of the girls who got into the situation with the appearance of the video on Pornhub made suicide attempts, were forced to drop out of school, were subjected to bullying and harassment.
PornHub is owned by MindGeek, a Montreal-based private conglomerate. Its moderators are in charge of filtering videos with children, but “many times it is difficult to determine if a person is 14 or 18 years old, real torture or not real.”
Christophe added that this year, Pornhub began voluntarily reporting illegal content to authorities and also compiled a list of prohibited content, but “the company has not made much effort to remove those videos.”
The author suggested three steps to solve the problem: allow only verified users to post videos, disable downloads, and improve the quality of moderation.
“These measures will not kill pornography or upset consumers too much. YouTube thrives without downloads,” he concluded.
Note that after the release of the material, payment operator MasterCard decided to reconsider cooperation with MindGeek, which owns the PornHub website.
In 2019, PayPal’s payment system took a similar step, as it stopped supporting payments to models on PornHub.
It was previously reported that the American filmed pornography in the Santa Monica city library, where at that time there were several schoolchildren.
