US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo spoke openly against Russia and its President Vladimir Putin and recalled how the Donald Trump administration supported Ukraine.
A series of posts on this showed up on his Twitter. In particular, Pompeo said the United States “should treat Russia the same way it treats communist China: not trust and control.”
“Russia, Russia, Russia … Let’s talk about Russia, through this noise. No administration has been as harsh on Russia as we are. Period. Stop. Look at the facts,” he wrote.
The secretary of state recalled the sanctions against the Russian Federation and the Russians and the pressure on the Russian gas industry, while calling Putin a “retired KGB idiot.”
“The United States should treat Russia the same way it treats communist China: distrust and proof,” Pompeo wrote.
The head of the US State Department noted Ukraine’s support for the opposition to Russia.
“A big step forward: I issued the Crimean Declaration that lifted the ban on providing lethal military assistance to Ukraine. Obama would not have sent weapons to freedom fighters. We did,” he said.
Pompeo recalled a trip to Ukraine, during which he met wounded soldiers at a Kiev hospital. He also wrote about supporting religious freedom.
“We act on different fronts against Russia, including religious freedoms. I made it clear that the United States supports the international recognition of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, helped the Metropolitan to avoid Russian influence.”
