Elections scheduled for May 10 will not take place

Polish President Andrzej Duda today, May 8, signed a law on holding presidential elections by mail due to the coronavirus pandemic. RBC-Ukraine reports this with reference to RMF24.

Therefore, the law on remote voting in the current presidential elections, previously supported by the Polish Sejm, will come into effect after its publication in the Official Gazette. The law allows presidential elections to be organized by mail so that voters do not have to go to the polls.

According to the media, now the presidential elections scheduled for May 10 in Poland will not take place, since the state electoral commission did not have time to prepare everything necessary for its celebration. In the future, the Supreme Court should declare the elections invalid, after which the President of Seimas will announce the organization of new elections.

It should be noted that remote voting should take place in June or July of this year.

We will recall, it was previously reported that on May 7, the Polish Sejm supported amendments to the electoral law to carry out the election of the President of Poland by mail. The decision was supported by 236 Polish deputies.

Furthermore, RBC-Ukraine wrote that the ruling Polish party, Law and Justice, advocated holding the current presidential elections in Poland by mail. Polish deputies presented this proposal to the Sejm.
