The vandal who attacked Hanukkah was arrested

The attackers face up to five years in prison or a hefty fine. The case has already been taken to court.

On Saturday December 12, the Kiev police identified the attacker who committed acts of hooliganism against one of the religious symbols of the Jewish community, the Hanukkah lamp, last Thursday in the capital’s Kontraktova Square. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of the Interior.

“A suspicion was prepared for a man under article 161 of the Penal Code: violation of the equality of citizens according to their race, nationality or religious beliefs. This article punishes Deliberate actions intended to incite national, racial or religious hostility and hatred, to humiliate national honor and dignity, or to insult the feelings of citizens regarding their religious beliefs“, – reported on Saturday the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

It should be noted that the case has been referred to the courts. The offender faces a sanction: a fine of 200 to 500 minimum non-taxable income of citizens or the restriction of liberty for up to five years or imprisonment for up to three years with or without the deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or participate in certain activities for up to three years.

It was previously reported that in Kiev a man shot down Hankuia and videotaped him. At the same time, anti-Semitic statements are heard on the video.

We will recall, a day before, that President Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated the Jews on Hanukkah.
