According to the Seafarers Journal, the pirates captured six Ukrainians, who are members of the crew of the cargo ship Stevia, flying the Cameroonian flag.

On December 16, off the coast of Nigeria in the Gulf of Guinea, pirates captured the crew of the cargo ship Stevia, including the Ukrainians. On December 19, the Seafarers Journal announced it on Facebook with reference to the inmates’ families.

“The armed pirates took eight crew members hostage and fled in an unknown direction … Of the eight hostages, six are Ukrainians (captain, first officer, second officer, chief engineer, electrician and viper). Seven crew members remained on the ship.” it says in the message.

According to the newspaper, among the captured Ukrainian sailors is Semyon Reznichenko, the captain’s first mate. His daughter claims that the ship’s crew “had problems with water and supplies.”

According to VesselFinder, the Stevia was built in 1982 and flies the Cameroon flag. On the morning of December 19, the ship entered the port of the Nigerian city of Lagos.
